Rasa is an ancient Sanskrit word that has many layers of meaning.
Rasa means, among many things, Essence, Taste (relating to the six tastes: sweet, salty. sour, bitter, pungent , astringent) and Nectar. Rasa has a relationship with all five senses, the six tastes and also the entire spectrum of our emotional/feeling life.
Essence: Essence is that indefinable thing that infuses your sense of life, they way you inhabit yourself and they way you move into the world. Rasa represents a way of life, a way of being in the world.
Taste: Life is a natural and sensual experience, and we experience our life most readily through our senses: sight, smell, hearing, touch and taste. Taste among them is both a sense and a sensibility. For example we have a taste for music (hearing), books (inner ear and sight), art (sight), how we like to be touched (skin and extrasensory perception), by people, fabric or otherwise. So taste is a sense in and of itself and it is also an essential factor in everything we choose whether we are conscious of it or not.
Nectar:(distilled/refined essence)To live your life well, with soul, requires getting to the center/ground of yourself and tapping into your essential nature. Rasa is the essence of taste, feeling and experience. Tasting not just food but life, developing a feeling for living life well, with a vitality cultivated from a deep and rooted sense of self.
